Carol the Writer from Montana has a horse named gus.  On her blog she asks her horse, Gus,  “Why do you want to be a writer?”

“It’s not an ambition I was foaled with,” he nickered. “In fact,” (here I had to wait while he munched on some hay) “I decided to become a writer because it seems obvious that some horse sense should be applied to literature. Certainly that’s not a quality humans have in abundance.”
