A Texas appeals court ruled that the owners of a mistakenly euthanized dog can sue to recover the sentimental value of their lost pet, reversing and remanding the ruling of a trial court. The closely reasoned opinion cites more than a century of Texas courts rulings on dogs.

How many times have you taken your well behaved pooch for a walk and found yourself grumbling about the not so well behaved dogs and their owners who do not pick up after themselves. Well, don’t blame the dogs. It’s the owners who are the criminals.

Dog Cries When Soldier Returns Home

Picture the scene at our house when we come home after being away for a few hours. Our dog, Maggie, is patiently waiting by the door to greet us. Our loving companion even seems to know what time of day my husband should be coming through the door. She lays on the floor directly in front of the door, waiting for her best friend to enter.

Can you imagine how your dog would react if it took you a year to come home?

While waiting in line to purchase my new Iphone I talked with Ron and his son, Casey. They told me about a video they made of Casey’s dog when he returned from a one year tour with the Idaho National Guard in Iraq.

This is one excited dog. My favorite part of the video is the huge long hug.

Our dog blog readers love rescue stories. We found a doozie of a cautionary tale from Moxee, Washington.

Here in the northwest we use irrigation canals to water our crops. Many of these water ways have concrete walls. As a result, canals can be very dangerous, so signs are posted to warn people to stay out of the canal. We invite you to follow the link to the report from the Yakima Herald about a couple dogs that found themselves doing a fast dog paddle and needing to be rescued from the Yakima Valley Roza Canal.

We applaud the very skilled gentleman from Mexico, Jesus Villanueva.

Steve Hartman, CBS news correspondent tells the story the ultimate mommy. “You can understand why some visitors to the Burlington, Iowa, humane society get a little freaked out. It’s not everyday you see a dog have a kitten for lunch. Lily, a mix of Labrador and who knows what, was found along an old farm road. She was pregnant and soon had six puppies who all got adopted.

And everything was fine, until the kittens showed up … without a mother.”

We love this story.
